He is currently working on assessing the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and livelihoods both at local and regional levels in the Himalayas. His research particularly focuses on one of the flagship species of the Himalayas—Caterpillar fungus. After receiving two masters’ degrees, one in Botany from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and other in Geographic Information Technology from Northeastern University, USA he worked as a research associate at Harvard University and Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), USA. His research interests are biodiversity conservation and poverty alleviation, sustainable natural resource management, climate and land use change and environmental governance. Apart from his scientific passion, he is an ardent photographer and won first prize in photo context organized by USAID-Nepal and 1st runner-up prize in photo competition organized by ICIMOD.
Sagar Prasai works as a Program Officer for the National Rehabilitation Society for the Disabled (NRSD) in Kathmandu, where he administers computer trainings for the physically disabled and visually impaired. He started the “Audio Books for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons” project at NRSD and also works as a consultant for WaterAid International Nepal, reviewing their Equity and Inclusion Framework. As a wheelchair user who experiences daily obstacles due to inaccessible infrastructure, Prasai has continuously worked as a disabilityrights activist for a barrier free and inclusive society. During his CSP fellowship, Sagar is working with the Boston-based Institute for Community Inclusion where he is supporting the Institute’s work on mainstreaming the inclusion of persons with disabilities in U.S Government programs such as AmeriCorps. He is also supporting the organization’s communication and social media outreach, as well as developing an assessment tool for inclusion initiatives. Following the Community Solutions Program, he plans to develop a mutual helping center in Kathmandu where both disabled and non-disabled members of the community can interact and assist one another in an effort to integrate disabled people with other members of the community and form an inclusive society.
